Why do I read BOOK ACKNOWLEDGMENTS?

By Sumi Phuyal

Do you read acknowledgments while starting new books?

The acknowledgment part of the book is where the authors publicly appreciate individuals who have contributed emotional, financial, moral, and academic assistance while they struggled to create a book. It remains either at the beginning or after the book.

Most of us skip this part when we start a book, BUT I love reading acknowledgment. I think it is the most crucial part of a book that everyone should read.

As previously said, acknowledgment comprises a short thank you message for those that assisted an author while authoring a book. It may be found not just in books, but also in research papers, essays, and other academic domains. It's written simply, yet if we delve deep enough, we can sense how profound it is.

When we receive a book, it is in one piece, and aside from the content we tend to learn, know, and think about the author solely but we seldom notice what goes on behind the scenes of the book on how many people have helped an author to start, the process behind it, and produce a complete piece? In my opinion, indeed the author is the most significant component of a book, but every helpful hand is equally important to create a book.

How many of us are aware that Harper Lee, the author of TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD, was given a year's pay by her friends for her to take a year off from work to write a book, and the rest is history?

And this is the first reason I read acknowledgments, those individuals don't know me, nor have I known them, but reading a message addressed to them makes me feel surreal and think more deeply about the kindness in people, and how far a person could go to support those they love.

Furthermore, I believe it teaches us to practice appreciation, to be grateful for everything, and to never take anything for granted. Acknowledgments offer us a life lesson: we should never forget someone who has supported us in difficult circumstances and has helped us to do our best in our life.

These are both simple reasons why I read acknowledgments, but it has truly enabled me to think broader, and I have a dream to write a book one day, it has taught me the hardship an author has to go through to give you a complete piece of the book, and It might also serve as a motivational remark to budding authors, letting them know that they are not alone.

You never know, you may be acknowledged in someone's life book.
